Conference Organiser: IAS
International AIDS Society (IAS)
The International AIDS Society (IAS) is the world’s professional society for scientists, health care and public health workers, and others engaged in HIV/AIDS prevention, control and care.
The IAS is a non-profit organisation founded in 1988. It is politically and financially independent and can speak freely as a voice of reason in AIDS controversies. The IAS has more than 6,000 individual members from over 130 countries, and 16 affiliated national and regional societies representing yet another 6,000 members. The IAS issues a Newsletter three times a year and our official journal is AIDS.
The IAS is the custodian of the International AIDS Conferences, the paramount gathering of all disciplines in HIV/AIDS held every two years. These prestigious conferences provide a unique forum for the interaction of science, community and leadership with the goal of bringing knowledge together for changes in the world’s response to HIV/AIDS.
The IAS also organises the highly successful IAS Conference on HIV Pathogenesis and Treatment. This conference occurs biennially and focuses solely on the scientific and medical aspects of HIV/AIDS. The next conference in the series will take place in Rio de Janeiro in 2005.
In addition to the Conferences, other key activities of the IAS include:
– The IAS-Share is a global educational program partnering with, among others, IAS-USA and the Foundation for Professional Development, serving the needs of current and future HIV care-providers in developing countries. E-mail: share@ias.se
– The Clinical Trials Partnership (IAS-CTP) is a forum which aims to foster the exchange of information and collaboration among all those from academia and industry and others involved in HIV/AIDS clinical research in developing countries. E-mail: ctp@ias.se
– IAS has a founding and leading role in the International HIV Treatment Access Coalition (ITAC) which aims to foster the exchange of information and collaboration among all organisations and individuals involved in scaling up access to HIV care and prevention in developing countries.
