Thailand’s rich cultural and artistic heritage is on display at the National Museum, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. The museum contains an 18th century palace and a group of historically important buildings that house Thailand’s artistic treasures from prehistoric to contemporary times. On this escorted tour knowledgeable guides will introduce you to musical instruments, pottery and weapons dating back to the 18th century and the famed Ban Chiang ceramics (5600–2250 BC). Kanchanaburi, a delightful escape into rural Thailand, is 130 km west of Bangkok and has a lush jungle scenery. During World War II allied prisoners of war, following their capture by the occupying Japanese army, built the infamous ‘Death Railway’. The book and movie ‘Bridge Over The River Kwai’ put the spotlight onto the area, which today is a chilling monument where thousands of soldiers died.

An early departure from Bangkok after breakfast at the hotel for a three-hour journey to Kanchanaburi province. Here you will visit the World War II Museum and allied prisoners of war cemetery before continuing to the Bridge over the River Kwai. Then transfer to the River Kwai Village by boat and check in to your hotel followed by a lunch at the Jungle View Restaurant. Mid afternoon cruise by a long tailed boat upstream along the River Kwai and then climb up to the Kaeng Lava Cave to explore the weird and wonderful lava rock formations, making this one of the most beautiful caves in Thailand. Transfer back to the hotel by boat in the late afternoon. A European-style dinner is served at the hotel. Overnight at River Kwai Village Resort.

A buffet breakfast is taken at the hotel before driving to Cu Chi to visit the amazing complex of underground tunnels. During the US-Vietnam War there were more than 200 km of underground tunnels connecting subterranean hideouts and dwellings for whole communities. After the tunnels we visit Tay Ninh, centre of the Cao-Dai and view the white robed worshippers at noon mass. Lunch is at a local restaurant on the tour. On the way back to Ho Chi Minh City we visit local homes to watch the traditional way of making rice paper and rice wine. Transfer from your hotel in Bangkok to the international airport for an early morning flight to Siem Reap. You will be met at the airport in Siem Reap and transferred to your hotel. Later in the morning we will visit the ancient city of Angkor Thom (12th century). Here you will see the South Gate leading to the Angkor complex, the Bayon Temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. Lunch is arranged back at hotel. In the afternoon visit the most famous of all temples on the Angkor plain – Angkor Wat, covering 81 hectares. The stunning 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the finest example of classic Khmer art and architecture. Dinner is at a local restaurant and overnight accommodation at the Angkor Century Hotel or the Apsara Angkor Hotel.
Friday 9 July / Sunday 18 July
A buffet breakfast is taken at the hotel before continuing the tour of temples. This morning we visit the unique brick sculptures of Prasat Kravan, the mountain temple of Pre Rup, Mebon Oriental, Ta Som, Neak Pean fountain and Preah Khan temple. Lunch is served back at the hotel. In the afternoon we visit Sra Srang – “the Royal Baths” which were once used for ritual bathing. Other historic sites visited today include Takeo, Thoomanon, Chua Say and Tevoda. There is also a visit to Ta Phrohm, one of the area’s most beautiful temples, which has been left relatively untouched and is surrounded in jungle as well as mystery. Dinner will be taken at a local restaurant with overnight accommodation at the Angkor Century hotel or the Apsara Angkor Hotel.
Saturday 10 July / Monday 19 July
Enjoy a buffet breakfast at the hotel before visiting the floating village of Chong Khneas and enjoy a boat ride on the Tonle Sap, the ‘great lake’ of Cambodia and largest in Asia, aboard a traditional wooden boat. Lunch is taken at the hotel with an afternoon visit to the “Les Artisans D’Angkor Chantiers Ecoles” before transferring to Siem Reap airport for your departure destination.
