How do I know if my scholarship application has arrived?

If you have applied online you will receive an automatic confirmation of your application via e-mail. If you have sent your application to the AIDS 2004 Conference Secretariat by post/courier, you will receive a confirmation e-mail as soon as your application has been entered into our database. This should be no later than February 2004.

When do I find out if I will receive a scholarship?

It is anticipated that the selection of scholarship recipients will be completed in early or mid-April 2004. At that time an e-mail will be sent to you, saying whether you have been awarded a scholarship or not.

Please note that you ONLY need to contact the International Scholarship Program if:

• You have moved and have a new contact address/telephone.
• The email address that you have indicated is no longer valid.
• You would like to withdraw your application or lower the support that you had asked for (e.g. if you have received funding from other sources).

What expenses does the scholarship cover?

You can apply for either a full scholarship (Registration fee, Air travel, Accommodation, Small daily allowance) or a partial scholarship, i.e. any combination of the above. Since the scholarship budget is very limited, applicants are advised to seek only the type of funding that they really need. Moreover, since funding is scarce, you are strongly encouraged to seek funding from other sources as well.

What will be the registration fee if I'm not granted a scholarship?

Scholarship applicants should NOT register for the Conference as a regular delegate. Applicants will be informed about scholarships in April. Scholarship applicants who have not been granted a scholarship will be able to register for the Conference at the lowest registration fee (the fee applicable before 2 February, 2004).

What regions will receive the largest share of scholarships?

In the AIDS 2002 Conference in Barcelona, 75% of the scholarship budget was allocated to the developing regions (Africa, Asia & the Pacific, Latin America & the Caribbean). The budgetary allocation for the AIDS 2004 Conference will be decided upon by the Conference Organising Committee in early 2004.

What languages will be spoken at the Conference?

The official language of the Conference is English. However, simultaneous interpretation into French, Spanish and Thai will be available for the Plenary Session and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Where can I read more about the Youth Scholarship?

If you are interested in the Activities for Youth during the Conference and its corresponding scholarship program, which is separate from the International Scholarship Program, please read their guidelines on the
Youth Activities web page.
