Ghana
Nana Bugyei Achcampong
– song
The lyrics of Nana’s songs about HIV/AIDS motivate people to join the fight. A popular singer, Nana’s music clips are on TV and FM radio. Nana will sing 12 July 7pm at the 2004 AIDS Film Festival Opening at Scala Cinema, Siam Square, 13 July noon-1pm in the Global Village and 15 July 11:30am-1pm at the NGO Booth.

Kenya
George Ayoma
– puppetry
George’s organization “Puppets Against HIV and Aids” project uses puppet theatre to promote community mobilization, awareness raising and behavior change communication on HIV and AIDS. Core issues such as HIV prevention, voluntary counseling and testing, and orphan and community support are addressed by the puppets. George performs to crowds in community slum areas and audiences are invited to participate. He can be seen 9 July 3-9pm Hualumpong Train Station for the Fashion Mart, 12 July noon-1pm Hall 6, 13 July noon-1pm roaming the hallways, 2-5pm in Global Village 2 and 5:30-6pm on the Global Village stage, 14 July noon-1pm Hall 6 and 8-10pm at Lumpini Hall. George will also participate in the Children’s Day at Goethe Institut on 17 July 2-5pm.

Oby Obyerodhyambo - performance
Oby Obyerodhyambo is a cultural activist, playwright, performer and storyteller. He is currently a Program Officer at PATH Kenya working in Behavior Change Communications to mitigate the spread of HIV and create a supportive environment for Care and Support for PLWAs. He will perform 14 July 8-10pm Lumpini Hall, 15 July 11:30-1pm NGO Booth and co-facilitate the Closing Workshop 15 July 5:30-7:30 Room 12.

Shangilia Mtoto Wa Afrika - song
This large orphanage trains children to perform both traditional and contemporary songs. The choir of 12 young singers from Nairobi will interact through song with young Thais from the Camillian Social Center, Rayong. Together, the young Thai and Kenyan singers will perform at the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the conference. Shangilia will also perform 12 July 5:30-6pm Global Village, 13 July 2-5pm Global Village 2, 14 July 8am before the Plenary in Impact Arena and noon-1pm Global Village, 15 July 11:30am-1pm NGO Booth and 5:30-7:30 Room 12. We hope they can also join the Children’s Day at Goethe Institut on 17 July 2-5pm.

Strengthening STD/HIV Control Project in Kenya - photo
This project trains sex workers in Nairobi to use photography to record and learn about their lives, health, safer sex as well as to do peer education in communities. The photos will be exhibited in the Exhibition Center in the NGO Exhibition Hall.

Zamaleo ACT – theatre
This young community-based cultural group uses traditional stories and performances to educate people about health, discrimination and stigma. Zamaleo ACT will perform 10 July 1pm outside the Lido Cinema in Siam Square and 6pm at the Goethe Institut ‘Com.passion’ Opening, 12 July 8am before the Plenary in Impact Arena, 2-4pm Global Village 2 and 6pm at the 2004 AIDS Film Festival Opening at Scala Cinema in Siam Square, 13 July 2-5pm Global Village 2, 14 July 4pm Hualumpong Train Station and 8-10pm Lumpini Hall, 15 July 11:30am-1pm NGO Booth and 5:30-6pm at Global Village.

Namibia
Venancius Rukero
– fashion, poetry
Venancius organizes fashion shows and beauty pageants, including the First HIV Fashion in Namibia on World AIDS Day last year, from which he will bring some of the costumes. He will also present some of his poems at spontaneous locations and times.

South Africa
Living Together Project (Elizabeth Pendry and Stompie Selibe)
– exhibition
The ‘Living Together’ project works with PHAs, their family and friends to create art objects, music, photography and video documentation. This exhibition displays creations from ‘Living Together’ workshops and is on show at the Exhibition Center in Hall 4/G. Elizabeth will read before the Plenary session on 15 July 8am and noon-1pm in Hall 6. She will be part of the AFRICASIA concert on 14 July 8-10pm at Lumpini Hall.

Sandile Ngidi – poetry
Sandile is not attending the conference but her poem “Hero’ will be shared at the conference.

Uganda
Meeting Point
- performance
At the Meeting Point community center in a Kampala slum, one of the Uganda’s biggest slums, different ethnic groups live together in peace and exchange cultures. This self-help group of PHAs performs in communities and schools. Meeting Point will perform at various venues including the Hualumpong Station ‘Fashion Mart’ (Rama 4 Rd) on 9 July 3-9pm, 10 July 1-5pm Film Festival Warmer outside Lido Cinema in Siam Square and 6pm Opening of ‘Com.passion’ events at Goethe Institut, 12 July 7pm at Sheraton Grande Hotel, 13 July Global Village 2 2-5pm, 14 July 8-10pm Lumpini Hall, 15 July 11:30am-1pm NGO Booth and 5:30-7:30pm Room 12.

TASO Mulago – song
Music from this pioneer PHA organization lifts the spirits of all. In the National PHA Cultural Festival in Uganda which featured more than 30 performance troupes from around the country, TASO Mulago was placed second. The organization was founded in 1987 by Dr. Noerine Kaleeba/UNAIDS. TASO will perform 10 July 1-5pm Film Festival Warmer and 6pm at Goethe Institut ‘Com.passion’ Opening, 12 July noon-1pm Hall 6, 2-4 Global Village 2 and 6pm Scala Cinema in Siam Square, 13 July 5:30-6pm Global Village, 14 July 8-10pm Lumpini Hall, 15 July 8am before the Plenary session, 11:30am-1pm NGO Booth and 5:30-7:30pm Room 12.
